We are a dynamic local authority providing essential services to the people of Gloucester.
Our main office, based in the Eastgate Centre on Eastgate Street in the heart of the city, is an accessible, modern and light space designed for collaborative working and finding new ways to work. It's all open plan, with a living green wall and other plants without set desks, so you can sit next to someone new every day. We're always looking to improve how we work and we offer flexible and agile working to give our people a great work life balance.
About Us
At Gloucester Guildhall, we're passionate about creating memorable experiences for our visitors, whether they're attending a live gig, enjoying a film, taking part in a workshop, or joining us for a conference. We're looking for a Café/Bar Shift Leader to join our friendly team on a 37 hour per week contract. Based in a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of Gloucester city centre, Gloucester Guildhall is a vibrant cultural venue hosting a diverse programme of events, including live music, comedy, cinema screenings, immersive performances, and community activities. With six versatile spaces available for meetings, conferences, and private hire, along with a commercial kitchen and two bars, our Café/Bar team plays an important role in bringing people together through great food, drink, and hospitality. No two days are the same, and that's exactly how we like it.
About the Role
Gloucester Guildhall is a busy, multi-use venue that operates seven days a week to support our varied cultural programme. Depending on what's happening in the building, our day may start as early as 8:30am and continue into the evening, sometimes finishing at 10pm, midnight, or later. As a Café/Bar Shift Leader, you'll be a key part of our food and drink operation, working closely with a team of casual and agency staff to deliver excellent service across the venue. You'll provide day-to-day leadership during shifts, helping to create a positive, supportive working environment where everyone can do their best work.
You'll be responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant sale of alcohol, maintaining high standards of food and drink service, and supporting the smooth running of our catering offer. This is a hands-on role, and you'll be involved in everything from preparing hospitality for corporate events to serving cinema audiences and helping deliver busy live events attended by hundreds of guests. If you enjoy variety, teamwork, and creating positive experiences for people, you'll find plenty to love in this role.
About You
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, approachable, and passionate about delivering great hospitality. You'll be confident leading a team, happy to roll up your sleeves and work alongside colleagues, and able to remain calm and organised in a busy environment. You take pride in delivering excellent customer service and understand how the little details can make a big difference to a visitor's experience.
You'll be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable making decisions when needed. Whether it's supporting a colleague, solving an unexpected challenge, or responding to a busy service period, you'll approach situations with a positive attitude and a willingness to help.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys working with people and contributing to a welcoming and inclusive team culture. We work to annualised hours, so flexibility is important. Some weeks may require fewer hours and others a little more, depending on the needs of our events programme, but in return you'll be part of an exciting venue where every day brings new opportunities and experiences.
Why Join Us?
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a welcoming team at one of Gloucester's most exciting cultural venues. You'll help create memorable experiences for audiences, visitors, clients, and colleagues while developing your skills in a fast-paced and rewarding environment. If you're looking for a role where you can make a real difference and no two days are the same, we'd love to hear from you.
