About the team & role

We are looking for a Local Nature Recovery Assistant to support the development and delivery of ambitious local nature recovery projects across Gloucestershire. Local Nature Recovery Strategies are shaping how counties and authorities prioritise and support nature recovery projects in their local area. The Gloucestershire Local Nature Recovery Strategy (GLNRS) was published in February 2026, and the assistant post is an ideal role for career changers or those looking to start a career in the nature recovery sector or who already have some experience.

You will support the Local Nature Recovery Officer in facilitating and administering the GLNRS and in meeting the legal responsibilities and duties of Gloucestershire County Council. You will gain experience across landscape-scale nature recovery delivery, in supporting project development, developing project pipelines and trackers, administering the Gloucestershire Nature Recovery Fund, community engagement, stakeholder collaboration and in gathering, monitoring and reporting data from local organisations and their nature recovery projects to central government.

About you

You will ideally have an environmental degree or experience in an environmental organisation or setting and be passionate about nature recovery in the UK. You will have good knowledge of the main challenges to nature and be open to innovative ways of achieving landscape-scale nature restoration. You will be a team player, self-starter and required to use your own initiative whilst contributing to the development of work processes and projects. You will be highly organised and willing to contribute to ideas that support the ongoing delivery of the GLNRS. You will be confident in communicating to a wide audience and forming positive relationships with partners and stakeholders.
