About the Role & Team
Are you passionate about helping businesses thrive? Do you enjoy using data, digital tools and collaborative working to make a difference? Join us to help deliver accessible, high-quality business support for start-ups and SMEs across Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire is home to the vibrant urban centres of Cheltenham and Gloucester, the beautiful rural settings of the Cotswolds and Forest of Dean and is located within easy access of Bristol, Birmingham, and Cardiff. We want to deliver sustainable economic growth by ensuring our communities have the best opportunities to achieve their potential.
We are seeking a proactive Economy Officer (Business Support) to support Gloucestershire’s Local Growth Plan through the delivery and continuous development of our business support offer, including the Growth Hub Network. Working closely with Growth Hub colleagues and the Digital Team, you will coordinate digital innovation activity, including cyber resilience, digital adoption and emerging technology events, helping SMEs use digital tools to improve productivity and grow.
Your varied remit will include managing and developing our CRM system, analysing performance data, producing monthly reports and identifying service improvements. You will help deliver workshops, seminars and networking events, coordinate the Business and Digital Mentor Programme, and support digital marketing and engagement. You will also oversee data quality and governance, test CRM and website updates, and represent the council at business events. Delivery takes place across multiple locations, and occasional evening meetings may be required, with attendance counted towards working hours.
About You
You will bring experience in a data-focused role, confidence using CRM systems, and the ability to turn complex information into clear reports and meaningful insights. With programme or project experience, you will be comfortable monitoring progress, managing risks and implementing improvements. You will understand digital platforms, websites, social media and emerging technologies, including AI and data-driven tools, alongside commercial awareness in a business support setting.
An excellent communicator and relationship builder, you will have experience working across organisations and engaging with senior managers, councillors and external partners in a political environment. You will be organised, adaptable and proactive, able to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively both independently and as part of a team. A positive, solutions-focused approach, an understanding of local needs and a commitment to Gloucestershire’s employee values will underpin your work. You will also need excellent literacy and numeracy, evidenced by GCSEs and A-levels/NVQ Level 4 in relevant subjects, or an equivalent qualification.
About Us
For all your hard work, you will receive the following:
